Project Date Night: September + Apple Crisp for Two Recipe

September is a great month for all things APPLE! This month's Project Date Night was an extension of a family fun night. We went apple picking at a local apple orchard and stocked up on my favorite apples - Macintosh! I bought some cider, cider syrup and utility apples (the not so pretty apples that are a great value when you're baking or making applesauce, or in my case apple butter).

Fun times!

After we put little man to bed, we munched on apple crisp and sipped cider while playing a variation on Apple to Apples - one of our favorite card games.

Mini Apple Pear Galettes

I find myself drawn to little things. You know, anything tiny equals cuteness. Like miniature ceramic tea sets, or petit fours. Or mini cheesecakes. Or mini pies. Is that a girl thing? Or just a me thing?

Anyway, I threw together these mini galettes and was quite pleased with the results. M gave them the thumbs up, too. His evaluation: "Not too sweet, just right. And I like the hand-held size. Really good. Can I have more?"

So of course I said yes. He may not be miniature, but he's definitely cute.

Apple Cider Baked Doughnuts

Apple Cider Doughnuts are a fall staple at every apple orchard I've ever visited.  I MISS FALL!!!  Born and raised in New England, fall to me means the scent of wood smoke hanging in the crisp fall air, apples and pumpkins, colorful leaves on the trees and crunching underfoot.

Sigh.
