Project Date Night '16: March

Did you know that March 14th is National Pi Day? And notice I said 'pi' as in math... as in 3.14....... get it?

Not sure who was the brainchild behind that awesome excuse for pie eating, but whoever you are, I thank you.

Any excuse to eat pie is a win in my book. Now, pie gets a little complicated when you've got food allergies. I typically cheat and eat crisps or crumbles or sloops or betties or whatever you want to call it. This month, we REALLY cheated 'pie' and just ate the filling.

Details
In honor of Pi Day, M and I played a round of Trivial Pursuit. Why, you ask? Well, if you've ever played the game, you'd know that the game pieces look like pie. In my face. In a pan.

This, friends, is the classic, original version. We find that we prefer the old version because it has questions about literature (books, people, BOOKS) instead of pop culture like the current version does.

Here's our board. I won this round!

And I can get the original version at thrift stores and/or yard sales for ridiculously cheap. So I did. Goodwill thanks me for my patronage.

Menu
  • Triple Berry Pie Filling (M)
  • Apple Pie Filling (me)
  • Protein Packed Vanilla Soft-Serve (M)
There's not actually a recipe for this, it's just a serving of Tera's Whey protein powder mixed with coconut milk, then blended with a frozen banana until it's soft serve consistency. Easy Peasy.
  • Herbal tea

Total Cost: $2 [for the Trivial Pursuit game]

So, that's it folks! Simple. Pie filling. Pie game. Pi Day. What wacky holidays do you 'celebrate'???

Memorial Day Munchables

I had a fantastic Memorial Day holiday.  Not because we left the house. Like, at all...

And not because anything happened. Because it didn't.

Actually, it was the lack of having anything to do that made it so awesome.  I slept in and made a special breakfast.  Blueberry Lemon Oven Pancake... YUM.

(still working on getting the recipe online for this, stay tuned... it's super yummy!)

After lounging around, reading, and packing a few boxes for our upcoming move, I decided to head to the pool for a swim.

Bummer... the hours were different and I got there just as the pool was closing.  No swim for me.

Headed back home and started feeling like making dinner.  Turkey Burgers!

M wanted a spicy Cajun version with melted cheddar and ketchup.  I was feeling a little more herb-a-licious, so I went with an Herbes de Provence version with mozzarella, lettuce, onion and yogurt sauce on a toasted whole wheat bun.

The salad was actually my favorite part of the meal.  I came across a cucumber and banana pepper salad on a blog and decided to put my own spin on it, using what I had in my crisper drawer.

Turned out awesome.

Light... fresh...  perfect side dish for my mood.  The recipe is on my recipage, here!

And what would a holiday meal be without dessert?

We had patriotic sundaes - homemade vanilla ice cream with fresh blueberry/strawberry sauce and whipped cream (of course!).

We finished up our day off chilling on the couch with a movie, then reading a book.  Hope your Memorial Day was as relaxing as ours was.  I needed a down day!

Healthier Holiday Cookies

Who says the holiday season means you have to throw your diet/healthy lifestyle out the window?

Yes, I will admit, celebrations tend to equal sweets and treats, and my household is no exception.  The key here, people, is moderation... and modification...

We've all heard the moderation thing before.  That's right... leave that 14th cookie on the platter and have a glass of water... your straining waistband will thank you.  At least I know mine will.
