Alligator Watching in the Everglades

Little airboat... our was about 3x this size.

Checking one more thing off my list... Airboat tour of the Everglades. We spent a 1/2 day at Sawgrass Recreation Park and really enjoyed ourselves.  The airboat tour was really cool (that boat MOVES!) and our guide/pilot was very knowledgeable about the Everglades and the wildlife.

We saw 5 alligators, some turtles and a few bird species. I tried to get pictures of all of them without falling overboard or sticking my limbs over the side of the boat.  Apparently, the alligators can see the motion from below the water and think it looks like lunch.  Mission accomplished:  I came home with all arms, legs, fingers and toes firmly attached.

Check out this guy!

After the airboat tour was over, we browsed through the wildlife exhibit and M held a baby gator!  No...  I wasn't interested.  'Look with your eyes, not with your hands' my dad says.

ATTENTION FLORIDA RESIDENTS:   with the purchase of one airboat tour, you are entitled to a free year long pass.  So, if we decide to go again in 2013, we can do the tour and exhibit again for free. Note, just make sure you bring your photo ID - sorry, can't share your pass with others.

Want to save a few bucks? Buy your tickets online and save $2 per ticket (or use this printable coupon if you'd rather not pay online).  Or, it's an included attraction for those that purchased the GoMiami pass.

And last, but not least... bring a jacket (it gets really windy at 35 MPH) and sunglasses.  Wear sunscreen.  Don't wear a hat - at least not frontwards... it would get blown off. If you have better ear protection than the squishy orange earplugs they provide (think firing range), feel free to bring them.  And BRING YOUR CAMERA.

Whale watching is so last month... Alligator watching... that's what the cool kids are doing these days.

  1. Love all 3 travel posts. I'm really starting to see your quirkiness come through in your writing. Love it! On a side note, I miss talking to you, and hope we can reconnect SOON.
